Minor premiers Waves Gold, who had been upset by the Hurricanes 48-46 in the major semi-final a week earlier, had blown the Brothers side away by 32 points in last year’s finale, but while this time it was a tight contest from the start, the reigning champions established an 11-8 lead by quarter-time.
